Royal Mail hits back at result-rigging claims

An investigation found the results were fairRoyal Mail says its investigation uncovered no wrongdoing.

Stories suggesting that the results of quality tests were rigged by managers and other workers have been dismissed by Royal Mail.

Following an insider tip-off, the UK regulator Postcomm conducted an investigation into whether test delivery addresses were revealed to Royal Mail staff who then prioritised them to make parcel delivery services look more efficient.

However, Royal Mail has denied the claims, saying that quality of service measurement, particularly in local mail operations, was conducted fairly and in accordance with the regulations.

"Both Royal Mail and Postcomm found that there has been no material impact whatsoever on Royal Mail's quality of service figures and absolutely no link to the payment of executive bonuses," the company stated.

Royal Mail conducted its own investigation into the matter and subsequently suspended members of staff thought to be guilty of malpractice.

Postcomm will make a decision in May as to whether action needs to be taken against Royal Mail.
