Postal strikes taking place across the UK this week have been described as "political posturing" by Royal Mail.Industrial action which is set to impact on postal services across the UK have been described by Royal Mail as "political posturing".Paul Tolhurst, the body's operations director, has claimed that the strikes by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) prove it is clearer than ever that the trade organisation is focused on such action. The company has also moved to suggest that many people will not need to seek post office alternatives, as more than 90 per cent of employees will be working normally in the coming days.Mr Tolhurst said that the CWU's support for change is "no more than lip service"."Royal Mail is getting on with modernisation in an entirely fair and reasonable way which is completely in line with our existing agreement with the union on flexible working practices," he added.Dave Ward, deputy general secretary of the CWU, recently claimed that trust between Royal Mail staff and management has broken down.Written by Rob ElliottArticle Added: 01/09/2009 15:16:48
