Royal Mail boosts Computer Aid with 3,000 PCs

Royal Mail has helped to provide computers to children in poverty.Computer Aid has welcomed Royal Mail's donation of 3,000 computers.

Royal Mail has donated 3,000 computers to a good cause, where they will help disadvantaged children in Chile to get access to a better education.

Children receiving the refurbished PCs from Computer Aid International will be able to learn word processing and web browsing to prepare them for jobs in the future, Computerweekly.com reports.

The charity has so far sent more than 160,000 computers to countries like Rwanda, Chile and Zambia, helping children to get out of poverty by learning new skills.

"We urge other organisations to follow Royal Mail Group's lead; donating equipment for re-use is free, easy and offers organisations guarantees with compliance in e-waste legislation," commented Tony Roberts, chief executive of Computer Aid.

It follows reports in the Belfast Telegraph that Royal Mail employee Malachy McGovern has received recognition from the company for his charity work in the Holywood area of County Down.

Mr Malachy founded the Penny Black Club six years ago, which encourages Royal Mail staff to volunteer for good causes.
