The proposed privatisation of Royal Mail would make the organisation a "second-class" service, it has been claimed.Plans to privatise Royal Mail could have a significant impact on the way it operates, according to an expert.Gary Watkins, the Wales regional secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU), has claimed that the proposals would turn the organisation into a "second-class" service.Speaking as the union stepped up its campaign against the plans in the country, he suggested that consumers may be forced to seek post office alternatives due to high stamp prices and the possibility of site closures."Royal Mail makes nearly £1 million profit every day. It's a successful public company that should be modernised under full public ownership," he explained."The majority of Welsh MPs and Assembly members support keeping Royal Mail wholly publicly owned. It's important that they and the public make their opinions felt by Westminster."Royal Mail recently criticised the CWU's plans to hold a strike in London over the privatisation proposals.Article Added: 16/06/2009 09:15:45
