Postman stashed parcels at home

A postman left hundreds of parcels at his homeRoss Henderson became mentally drained after constant changes to his route.

A postman left hundreds of parcels and letters at his home in Edinburgh because he could not cope with the volumes of mail he had to deliver, a court has heard.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that 23-year-old Ross Henderson became mentally drained after constant changes to his route and delayed more than 1,600 items of post.

Sheriff Katherine Mackie deferred the sentence for background checks on the first offender.

Fiscal depute Aidan Higgins said that Mr Henderson had kept the parcels but had not opened any of them.

"None of the packets had been interfered with, they were all as they had been sent," he told the court.

John Knight, a postman from Worsley, Greater Manchester, was recently spared a jail sentence after he was found guilty of stealing money from cards and parcels.

He said he took the money to help reduce his personal debts of around £25,000, the Manchester Evening Post reported.
