Postal workers across the nation to strike

Postal strike could be biggest disruption in two yearsUp to 25,000 postal workers are to take part in a series of strikes over the coming days, according to reports.

Up to 25,000 postal workers are to strike over the coming three days as rows about pay and job security escalate.

The action, which will last until Monday, is set to the biggest disruption to postal services since 2007.

But the industrial action, which will affect areas in London, eastern and central England and Scotland, could just be the beginning of disruption to postal services to come.

According to reports, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is planning to hold a national ballot of its 160,000 members next month, which could result in nationwide strikes.

The striking workers are protesting against what they refer to as "panic-driven" cuts to services, pay and jobs.

"Postal workers are sick and tired of an incompetent management running their business into the ground. Workers are busier than ever and being treated badly. The current round of cuts in jobs and services is unacceptable," said Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary

Strike action affecting services in London, Edinburgh, Bristol, Darlington and Plymouth took place last month.
