Children could miss out on places at secondary schools because of the postal strike. The forthcoming national postal strike will plunge the secondary school application process into turmoil, council leaders have warned.According to the Local Government Association (LGA), many children could miss out on their first choice of high school because their applications will not be received in time.Councillor Shireen Ritchie, chairman of the LGA's Children and Young People Board, said that the uncertainty created by the strike could leave councils with a difficult task of making sure the admissions process is fair to everyone."The proposed Royal Mail strike could cause confusion and concern for families and could throw the school admission process into disarray," she stated. Ms Ritchie called for a swift resolution to the stand off between the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and the Royal Mail to ensure the public are not adversely affected by it.The CWU recently announced that 42,000 Royal Mail staff will go on strike on October 22nd, followed by another 78,000 the following day.Written by Tom SandsArticle Added: 16/10/2009 16:16:52
