Postal services strikes to affect Scotland

Postal strikes in ScotlandPostal service workers from Grangemouth, Alloa, Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath are to go on strike this weekend.

Postal services in some areas of Scotland are set to be affected this weekend as Royal Mail staff stage strike action.

Over 250 workers from delivery offices in Grangemouth, Alloa, Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath will cease duties from 09:00 BST on Saturday until midnight on Sunday, which could leave people in the area looking for Post Office alternatives.

The strikes have been planned to protest at the plans by the Royal Mail to reorganise delivery operations in the areas.

Mark Newton, area delivery representative for Fife and Central, told the Dunfermline Press the strike was due to "unnecessary revision of our sorting and delivery system".

He added: "They have already given eight early voluntary redundancies in Dunfermline with a couple more people leaving in June. Taking these people out of Dunfermline only makes the service worse for the public."

Residents from Smalley in Derbyshire were recently angered after Royal Mail announced it would no longer deliver to them after one postman claimed to have developed back pains because of pot holes on the road, the Derby Telegraph reported.
