The sudden closure of a post office branch in Sheffield has been criticised by members of staff.

Workers at a post office in branch in Sheffield have criticised its sudden closure that came without warning.

Several counter clerks from the Darnall branch, which was run by Bolton-based firm Post Office Solutions, have been left unemployed after electricity was cut off at the site at the start of August due to an unpaid bill.

According to the Sheffield Star, no effort has been made to re-open the site, which means residents in the area may have had to seek out post office alternatives in the interim.

Talking to the newspaper, a post office spokeswoman claimed that the organisation is currently looking for a new location for the site.

She added that subpostmasters are liable for such running costs.

The Stornaway Gazette recently revealed that a post office in Amhuinnsuidhe is to be closed temporarily after the subpostmaster for the area resigned.
