Post Office queues 'are getting longer'

People are waiting longer to send parcelsNew study finds Post Office waiting times have increased.

Members of the public may want to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs after new research found that queuing times are now longer then ever.

According to a study by Consumer Focus, the average wait at the Post Office is six minutes and seven seconds compared to five minutes 40 seconds last year.

As well as long waiting times, customers also expressed their dismay at the fact that 56 per cent of counter positions were open in the Post Offices visited, while more than a quarter of staff issued customers incorrect proof of postage documents.

Andy Burrows, Post Office expert at the watchdog, said the results will not be shocked by the findings.

"Customers are unlikely to be surprised to hear that queues at Post Offices are getting worse. Queues have continued to creep up and it seems that Post Office closures have added to the problem," he added.

Mary Dejevsky, writing in the Independent, recently complained at the length of time she has to wait at the Post Office to send parcels.
