Plans to close a post office in Birmingham have been cancelled in the short-term due to a planning issue. The future of a Birmingham post office is hanging in the balance after plans for its closure were put back. According to the Birmingham Mail, plans to shut the Sparkhill site and convert it into a restaurant have been put on hold as planners would like to view the property and the surrounding area beforehand. It is thought that turning the post office into an eatery could put pressure on congested side roads. Local councillor Jerry Evans suggested that the closure of the shop could also lead some to seek post office alternatives. He told the newspaper: "I am very concerned that if planning permission is granted we will lose a valued community resource which serves Sparkhill and much of Sparkbrook." Earlier this week, This is Lancashire reported that Royal Mail staff in the area have protested against the closure of a sorting office in Farnworth.Article Added: 27/05/2009 09:21:48
