Residents in Huddersfield may have to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs, as Hipperholme Post Office has been closed indefinitely following a ram raid.

Thieves attempted to tear out a cash machine based at the outlet in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving a gaping hole and substantial damage to the branch.

Temporary sub-postmaster John Armstrong said the attackers caused significant structural damage to the building and the length of time it will take to repair it is unclear, which could mean locals will have to use alternative parcel delivery providers for the foreseeable future.

"It's more about the implications to the community … the priority is to get the office back open again as soon as possible," he added.

People in the Glasgow village of Westburn recently expressed their anger at the closure of the local Post Office, which has meant some have had to use alternative parcel delivery providers, the Rutherglen Reformer reported.
