A post office in Plymouth has been closed after an audit led to its subpostmaster being suspended.

Residents in the north of Plymouth have been hit by the closure of a local post office, according to reports.

The town's Herald newspaper has revealed that the Southway Drive site has been closed since July 3rd after an audit led to its subpostmaster being suspended pending further inquiries.

No details have yet been confirmed about the nature of the investigation, which could lead many residents to seek post office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs.

Local resident Pat Strong told the newspaper: "I hope they won't use this as an excuse to close the post office permanently.

"I feel sorry for the elderly and the infirm, and those who don't have a car and will have to take a bus to another post office."

Postal services in London are currently being affected by the decision of the Communication Workers Union to strike over plans for the future of Royal Mail.
