A new scheme has been set up which will allow consumers to have parcels delivered to their local pub.Consumers could soon be able to have their parcels delivered to local pubs for safekeeping, it has been claimed.Brewing firm Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) has backed useyourlocal.com, which was created by one of its former managers. The initiative allows publicans to receive and look after parcels for customers who are not at home when deliveries are planned, which could provide a boost to those that regularly use post office alternatives.Stuart Mills, who came up with the scheme, said: "Most people regard a visit to their local pub as infinitely more appealing than the prospect of joining the queue at their 'not-so-local' sorting office on a wet Saturday morning and hopefully the trip will help people rediscover the delights of the great British pub."The Communication Workers Union recently claimed that plans to part-privatise Royal Mail would make it a "second-class" service and may lead to further site closures.Article Added: 23/06/2009 09:20:05
