Online shoppers start snapping up Christmas bargains

Online Christmas shopping starts Online shoppers are snapping up tinsel, trees and cards on eBay in preparation for Christmas.

It may seem that summer has barely begun, but for many it is already time to start preparing for the festive season.

Online shoppers in particular are getting into the Christmas spirit early, with research showing that trees, wrapping paper and cards are all being snapped up on eBay, reports PC Advisor.

Figures from the site show that there has been a 240 per cent increase in the amount of tinsel sold, while card sales are up 191 per cent, with five packs being purchased every hour.

Artificial trees are also proving big sellers, with eager buyers successfully bidding on one every three minutes.

"We've been surprised to see so much Christmas shopping happening on the site so early in the year. The summer is still in full swing and already we're looking forward to Christmas," eBay spokesperson Julia Hutton-Potts told the news provider.

However, people who have not started receiving parcels of Christmas goods yet need not worry, there are over 180 shopping days left.

Recent research conducted by comScore found that mums are the member of a household most likely to indulge in some online shopping.
