Web shoppers are now more savvy about how to stay safe when using online shopping facilities, it has been revealed.

Those using the internet for online shopping and parcel delivery, as well as social networking and email, are more in touch with safety than a few years ago, a new survey has revealed.

Media regulator Ofcom's new Media Literacy Report showed that almost 75 per cent of people say they are more conscious of security online now - compared to less than 50 per cent of people asked for another survey back in 2007.

According to the survey, half of UK adults have now used the internet for online shopping and have also been able to save money by using price comparison tools.

In total, more than 1,800 interviews were carried out for the survey.

Celebrity fans of online shopping and parcel delivery include Cheryl Cole, who recently told Harpers Bazaar that she likes internet purchasing as it takes away the hassle of heading to the high street.
