New research has revealed online retailers are confident that their sales will rise in the next three months.

The number of parcel deliveries being made from online retailers could be set to rise in the near future, according to a new study.

Research in eBay's Second Online Business Index found that 57 per cent of web-based firms expect sales to rise in the next three months, which is a four per cent increase on the previous quarter.

It was also revealed that 76 per cent of firms achieved their sales targets in the past three months, while a fifth also managed to cut their shipping costs.

Vanessa Canzini, a spokesperson for eBay, said the figures highlighted how firms are adapting.

"They realise there is a changing consumer demand in terms of what consumers are buying and how much they are willing to pay and online businesses are really being dynamic and responding to this change," she added.

Recent figures from Verdict Research revealed that online spending is set to grow by £2.4 billion over this year.
