Shopping over the internet has many benefits.

Christmas is set to be a bumper year for online retail, as more and more consumers realise the benefits of shopping in this way.

A spokeswoman for eBay says there are several factors which make online retail more attractive to members of the public than visiting the high street.

She claims that the internet is a much safer place to do one's shopping and this increased confidence in security is reflected in the increasing numbers of people who are using it to buy their goods.

"eBay believes there are three factors which are crucial to increased online sales - selection, value and trust. People shop online because they can access a far wider selection of goods more conveniently than on the high street," the representative states.

The recent Online Business Index published by eBay found that 51 per cent of online retailers expect a stronger Christmas than last year, with many ordering more stock as a result.
