Amazon UK, Argos and Play.com are the most popular with online retail fans.

Amazon UK is the most popular online retailer, with more consumers visiting the site than any other last month.

According to the Interactive Retail in Media Group Hitwise Hot Shops List, which ranks the top 50 online retail firms as indicated by visits, the firm attracted the most shoppers in November.

Coming second in the list was Argos, followed by Play.com, Apple Computer and Marks and Spencer in fifth.

Completing the top ten were Amazon.com, Tesco.com, Next, John Lewis and Tesco Direct.

Experian Hitwise's director of research, Robin Goad, said online retailers who usually perform well are continuing to do so.

"As we approach Christmas, retailers from sectors that traditionally do well at this time of year have improved their positions on the list," he added.

A spokeswoman for eBay has claimed that what makes online retail so appealing to many is that it is more convenient for shoppers and there are also more offers available than on the high street.
