One in four mobile phones 'sold online'

People buying mobile phones over the internetNew research has highlighted that many consumers are heading online for new mobile phones.

The number of mobile phones sold via the web is on the increase, with the majority being bought via eBay and Amazon, according to new research.

A study by TNS ComTech highlights that almost a quarter of new mobile phone purchases are made online in Western Europe's six largest markets, reports Telecoms.com.

The number of phones bought online in the UK is over 25 per cent.

It was also noted that one in 16 handsets sold in Western Europe are now sold on eBay or Amazon.

A further survey conducted by the group in the UK found that many people who browsed stores for mobile phones ended up making their purchase over the internet.

Recent research by comScore highlighted that around 29 million Britons used online retails sites at home or at work in May this year, which equates to 79 per cent of the total UK online population.
