CWU general secretary Billy Hayes warns further action is very likely.Hopes of an end to the national postal strikes look to be fading after the Communication Union Workers Union (CWU) claimed that industrial action is likely to intensify.A second wave of strikes began this morning, with hundreds of workers downing tools and walking out of sorting offices in the dispute over pay and plans to modernise the postal service. There had been hopes of a breakthrough following marathon talks between Royal Mail bosses and CWU representatives. However, the union's general secretary, Billy Hayes said that strikes are likely to intensify, meaning those who want to send parcels in the future will need to use alternative parcel delivery providers, such as Parcel2Go.com."We will be upping the dispute. We will not be scaling it down. There is every prospect that we will increase the action and we could be looking at longer strikes," he stated. In other news, the BBC has claimed that the wave of national postal strikes will strengthen Royal Mail's competitors, such as Fed Ex and DHL.Written by Laura RathboneArticle Added: 30/10/2009 09:32:36
