An MP has spoken out against plans to reduce the service at a post office in the Lake District. The proposed reduction in services at Cartmel Post Office has been met with criticism from a local MP. According to Tim Farron, who represents the South Lakes area in parliament, the decision to cut the branch's opening hours to just two days a week was "unacceptable". The North West Evening Mail reports that the decision to cut services may impact on local businesses and the public, who all may need to seek out post office alternatives. Mr Farron told the newspaper: "The decision to downsize Cartmel Post Office makes a mockery of last year's consultation, which made it perfectly clear that Cartmel, as a thriving, busy tourist centre deserved to have a full post office." Earlier this week, it was revealed in the Birmingham Mail that the future of a post office in the Midlands rests on the decision of planners.Article Added: 28/05/2009 09:20:00
