Postal services are failing rural communities.Geoffrey Cox, MP for Torridge and West Devon, has called on Post Office executives to investigate disruptions to mobile Post Offices across Devon, which have been blighted by a series of technical problems.Mr Cox met Post Office Ltd's regional network development manager Tim Nickolls to highlight issues where van services could not reach rural communities, leaving many without any parcel delivery services. The pair also discussed the closure of several Post Offices in the area and the parcel delivery services they provide."While in some cases I am broadly satisfied that the new situation works reasonably well, it is clear that there is much scope for improvement," Mr Cox said.He added that those who have lost out from the recent closures and problems with mobile services are rural communities and stated that the situation should not be allowed to happen again. In other news, residents in the Scarborough village of Burniston may have to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs in the future, as the local branch looks set to close, the Scarborough Evening News reported.Posted my Mark MooreArticle Added: 19/01/2010 15:20:28
