Mobile 'will be key driver of social media'

Mobile 'will be key driver of social media'Social media will have to be integrated into mobile technology.

Parcel delivery businesses using Web 2.0 technology as a forum for discussion or part of a wider marketing strategy will need to optimise their social media pages for mobile use.

Mobile will be the "key driver" of the expansion of social media, according to InSites Consulting managing partner Steven Van Belleghem.

Social media is "integrated in the lives" of the majority of people using the internet, he explained.

"The strong growth of mobile internet will increase this integration process even more," said Mr Van Belleghem.

In the future, he added that "increasing the relevance of the content will be the key challenge again. This will probably increase the de-friending trend".

A survey of global operators carried out by Airwide Solutions suggested that social networking will be responsible for the continuing rise in mobile internet usage and will be elevated to one of the core forms of communications.

Over four-fifths of the respondents to the survey said messaging and voice will remain among the most-used forms of communication in 2015.
