Men 'need more online retail options'

Women benefit a great deal from online retail, as many brands have an extensive selection of products aimed at them, an industry figure has claimed.

Hannah Kimuyu, director of paid search at Greenlight, claims that fashion retailers in particular offer various items for ladies to purchase, while their offerings to men are less extensive.

She states that fashion brands should be aware that men spend more on online retail than women and need to take advantage of this.

"A lot of fashion retailers are offering greater options to females over men … there are not enough options for men and therefore it makes more sense for them to go and shop offline," Ms Kimuyu adds.

She believes that there is a great opportunity for online retailers to boost sales, with the success of womenswear achievable with men's clothes.

According to figures published by the Office for National Statistics, the seasonally adjusted value of retail sales in February 2010 rose by 4.9 per cent compared with February last year.
