Marshland Smeeth Post Office could close

The Post Office could close for goodJohn Davies, who has run the branch for 22 years, has had enough.

People in the Marshland Smeeth area of Norfolk may have to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs in the future, as the local Post Office looks set to close.

John Davies, who has run the branch for 22 years, has decided he no longer wants to continue in the job and is keen to build a retirement home, the Lynn News reported.

The Post Office, which is the only one in the area, has been the target of repeated robberies, while Mr Davies and his wife have suffered physical violence.

Councillor David Markinson, ward member for Mershe Lande, said that local people look set to lose out.

"The village stands to lose forever the single shop that the villagers rely on for newspapers, groceries and the like as well as the Post Office," the newspaper reported.

Residents in the Strathmiglo area of Fife will need to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs as the local Post Office will close for the foreseeable future, Fife Today reported.
