Majority of people 'happy' with postal services

The majority of people are satisfiedCompanies and residential customers are happy with their postal services.

More than eight out of ten households and small businesses are happy with their postal services, new research has found.

Studies of residential and commercial customers by Ipsos MORI, on behalf of Postcomm, revealed that 80 per cent of each group are satisfied with the parcel delivery services provided by Royal Mail, with around half of households saying they were 'very happy'.

Eight out of ten companies which spend more than £5,000 a year on mailing rate Royal Mail as highly as they do alternative parcel delivery providers.

Tim Brown, chief executive of Postcomm, said the results prove Royal Mail's resilience in what have been challenging times for the firm.

"These results show that despite falling volumes in mail as a result of the changing world – and even despite strike action – customers say they're generally pretty happy with their postal services," he added.

Figures from Consumer Focus revealed that in 2008/09 Royal Mail achieved 93 per cent of its performance targets.
