Alternative parcel delivery providers offer a good service.

Royal Mail should be 'worried' about the growth of Post Office alternatives available to online retailers, with many offering parcel delivery services at the same price.

Michael Ross, director at eCommera, told Phil Muncaster from Computing.co.uk that online retailers no longer need to feel hamstrung into relying on Royal Mail for their parcel delivery needs.

"There are enough good second-tier alternatives around for online traders to choose from, without having to push up delivery prices to unacceptable levels," he said.

Mr Muncaster went on to write about how the parcel delivery element of online retail is the area which many firms fail to devote enough care to, but the recent strikes by Royal Mail staff highlighted the importance of it.

Chris Russell, director of market research firm eDigitalResearch, echoes this sentiment, saying that the industrial action brought Post Office alternatives to the attention of online retailers and prompted many to look at the systems they have in place.
