Postal workers in London have begun strike action over modernisation plans for Royal Mail. The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has confirmed that postal workers in London have begun three days of strike action against plans for the future of Royal Mail.Delivery, distribution and logistics staff are taking part in a rolling 24-hour set of strikes over three days from today (July 8th), which may lead people to take up alternative post office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs.According to the CWU's deputy general secretary Dave Ward, Royal Mail's management is to be blamed as they turned down a deal which would see the union to agree to three months without strike action in exchange for negotiations on modernisation."Management seem to be sulking because the prospect of privatisation and increased executive pay has disappeared," he added.Royal Mail recently described the CWU's claims as "misleading nonsense" and claimed the body is looking to block modernisation that is "crucial" to the firm's future.Article Added: 08/07/2009 15:17:42
