It has been decided that Leeds City Council will not subsidise plans to save dozens of post offices across the city.Residents in West Yorkshire could be set to start seeking out post office alternatives after a fight to save sites has broken down. Leeds City Council and Royal Mail bosses have been in discussions ever since 22 post offices were closed in the city last year, reports the Yorkshire Evening Post. The council was in discussions to save post offices with a cash injection, however leaders have now refused the use of council tax to subsidise the closures. A spokesman for Leeds City Council told the newspaper they were "not willing" to subsidise the service "in any way". The Post Office said: "We are keen to work with local authorities, community or other groups with interest in funding and providing premises and staff for a Post Office branch where this would not have a detrimental impact on the existing network of branches." People living in the Essex village of Great Sampford are going to have to look for new parcel delivery options after it has been confirmed their local post office will close on September 10th, reports the Cambridge Evening News.Article Added: 10/08/2009 15:16:33
