J.D. Salinger's personal toilet is up for sale on eBay.

Receiving a parcel delivery of a used, famous person's toilet is perhaps one of the more unusual online ordering experiences.

That is what one eBay bidder can get their hands on, it has emerged, after J.D. Salinger's own toilet was put up for auction on the site for a cool $1 million (£640,000).

Coming from his home in Cornish, New Hampshire, the commode is dated from 1962 can be shipped direct to your door "uncleaned".

Apparently the new owners of the reclusive late writer's house did not want to keep when they moved in.

By 1962 Salinger had written most of what he was going to publish, though he did complete several manuscripts that his wife has inherited.

The seller writes: "Who knows how many of these stories were thought up and written while Salinger sat on this throne?"

Although the price tag is $1 million, the bidder said a reasonable offer will be accepted.

The toilet will be shipped by the US Postal Service (USPS) for free and comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee.

USPS recently agreed a deal to make it easier for UPS customers to return package delivery items by opening up drop-off points to the firm.
