ISBA members 'concerned' at national postal strike

Many firms will seek services from alternative providersIndustry body warns many of its members will use find other mail delivery providers.

ISBA, the representative body for the advertising industry, has claimed its direct mail members are becoming increasingly concerned about the effects a national postal strike will have on their businesses.

The organisation said that regional strikes have already caused various problems and industrial action at a national level could exacerbate the situation.

David Ellison, marketing services manager at the group, said that firms will seek the services of alternative parcel delivery providers, such as those offered by Parcel2Go.com.

His thoughts are echoed by Parcel2Go.com director Richard Adams-Mercer, who claims that companies will not hang around for the Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union to iron out their differences.

"Businesses want to know that their deliveries will arrive on time. Royal Mail workers are shooting themselves in the foot - UK Plc will be hit hard by the strikes and this will cause firms to take their business elsewhere," he stated.

The news follows a survey conducted by IMRG which found that 77 per cent of its members are concerned that a national postal strike will have an adverse effect on online retail during the run up to Christmas.
