Honiton Post Office 'not serving the needs of the community'

People have complained of long queuesMayor Vivienne Ash says the Post Office is failing in its responsibilities.

Members of Honiton Town Council have claimed that the local Post Office is not serving the needs of the community.

The North Devon Gazette reports that the local authority has received a letter from a resident in the Honiton area who complained that long queues were driving people away, which could result in them seeking alternative parcel delivery services.

Mayor Vivienne Ash and other members of the council discussed the writer's concerns at Honiton Town Council's September meeting and came to an agreement that cut-backs meant that the Post Office was failing to deliver the services required of it.

"There's no doubt there has been a cutting back of staff that is leading to very long queues … it is really silly in a market town for the Post Office to open at 9:30 GMT. It is not servicing the community of Honiton," Ms Ash said.

Meanwhile, the people in the Lancashire village of Broughton may have to seek Post Office alternatives after their local branch was closed without notice, reports the Lancashire Evening Post.
