Herpenden in Hertfordshire is to see a Post Office re-opened following a public consultation. The closure of a Post Office in Hertfordshire, which led to residents needing a parcel delivery alternative, could be overturned after a public consultation.Southdown Road Post Office in Harpenden was shut when the newsagents which contained it closed down and the postmaster retired in January 2009, with authorities claiming that the closure would only be temporary.According to the Herts Advertiser, the Southdown outlet was the second Post Office to close in the area, meaning residents had to travel to Station Road or Kinsbourne Green, located one mile apart.A spokesperson for the firm said: "Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term. The reopening and relocation of Southdown Road Post Office allows us to restore access to Post Office services and to improve facilities."The BBC recently reported that parcel delivery services are to return to the Ceredigion village of Aberporth after plans to launch a six-week consultation about the opening of a new Post Office were revealed.Posted by Laura RathboneArticle Added: 19/04/2010 14:41:28
