Halford's expects online sales boom on the 25th

Shoppers are expected to go online on Christmas DayChristmas Day could be a good one for online retailers.

Online retailers are expecting a boom in sales on Christmas Day, with shoppers logging on to take advantage of reduced prices.

Chris Corbin, head of Halfords.com, told the Daily Mail that the company predicts a surge in sales on the 25th, with consumers collecting their goods the following day.

On Christmas Day last year, more than £100 million was spent via the internet and retailers are hoping for a similar situation this year.

"We have a bigger and better sale than ever before planned. So we are expecting a large number of visitors to our site who'll want to reserve their sales bargains online and collect them in store on Boxing Day," Mr Corbin told the newspaper.

The first Monday in December, known as Cyber Monday, saw large numbers of people buy gifts for loved ones over the internet, with Amazon telling the BBC that lots of customers placed orders for things such as Harry Potter DVDs and Susan Boyle's new album.
