FSB unveils post office plans

The services that post offices offer could be changed under FSB plansA leading business organisation has proposed that a series of changes are made to the post office network in the UK.

Post offices across the UK should be made into small business hubs, according to an leading industry organisation.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has proposed that the best way for the post office network to be made financial viable is by making it a one-stop shop for companies to get advice on insurance, parcel deliveries and government services.

Research by the body found that one in five small businesses visit their local branch every day, but the organisation added that these firms are not getting the service they need.

John Wright, national chairman of the FSB, said: "Making post offices into small business hubs – including dedicated business desks and a full range of financial services – will not only ensure the survival of the country's post offices, but also the communities that they serve."

Postal services in the UK are currently being affected by strikes organised by the Communication Workers Union.
