FedEx study looks at best social media practiceParcel delivery firm FedEx has examined the best ways for businesses to use social media.

International package delivery company FedEx has published a sweeping new study about the best methods and practices for companies using social media.

The research, which was carried out jointly with Ketchum, points to the power of Facebook, Twitter and the like in generating word-of-mouth support and for customer care.

Bill Margaritis, senior vice-president for global communications and investor relations at FedEx, said the study had yielded important information about which firms aspire to leadership in the social media sphere and the structural changes being made within organisations to respond to the new trend.

"The discussions with participants provided interesting perspectives on whether leadership should be the gold standard for all companies in the space or if, in some cases, being a participant is more appropriate," he added.

FedEx is gearing up for its busiest day of the year this December 13th, when 16 million parcel delivery shipments are expected to be handled.
