Royal Mail has come under fire from the residents of Ellesmere over its decision to close the local delivery office.Local residents in Ellesmere have been voicing their anger at the closure of the town's Royal Mail postal delivery office. All activities from the office are set to be moved nine miles away to the Oswestry District Office from May 11th, reports the Whitchurch Herald.Geoff Elner, mayor of Ellesmere, told the newspaper people in the local vicinity will receive their mail at least an hour later, which he claims will result in a negative knock-on effect for all businesses. The Royal Mail has denied these claims, stating services would be improved as residents could collect undeliverable mail all day - as opposed to at the moment where the office is only open a few hours.Mr Elner stated: "There has been no consulting over this, Royal Mail seems to have not a care in the world for the local people."It will be bad for the town's economy - they are taking away a service people depend on."Disgruntled Paul Bryant from Southsea in Hampshire is taking the Post Office to the High Court over long queues. He claims its decision to ditch a limited queuing policy in 2003 has made the issue far worse, with branch closures over the last 12 months making it even more problematic, the Express reported.Article Added: 17/04/2009 16:33:12
