A post office in Harrow is to close despite the efforts of local residents to save it, according to reports.

People in Harrow-on-the-Hill may have to seek-out alternative parcel delivery services after it was revealed a post office in the area is to close.

Efforts had been made to save the branch on the high street through a series of petitions, but talks on the future of the site have broken down due to financial demands.

According to the Harrow Times, former postmaster Mylvatanam Asokan is disappointed with the decision.

He said: "As a business it's good for us, but also it's a service the community is missing so badly at the moment.

"In that sense I'm quite upset that it didn't work out."

Last week, the East Grinstead Courier and Observer revealed that local people have condemned the closure of a local village post office in the area.
