More people are choosing to shop online as they feel it is a greener way to purchase, a survey has shown.

UK shoppers are increasingly looking to online shopping to get their goods as it is seen as a greener way to purchase, according to a new survey.

The latest e-Customer Service Index survey from IMRG and eDigitalResearch showed that more than a third of people prefer to shop online. In total, more than 2,000 people were polled for the survey.

Further to the eco benefits of going online, people praised online shopping for its usefulness in thoroughly researching different products, which could include comparing prices or looking for the greenest option.

"As well as reducing the carbon footprint, people have access to a wider choice of greener products as many ethical smaller providers often don't have a shop-front," director of eDigitalResearch Chris Russell pointed out.

Pop star Cheryl Cole recently admitted to a love of online shopping, which could see the starlet increasingly using parcel delivery services in the future.

Speaking to Harper's Bazaar, she claimed to find high street shopping stressful and online purchasing a more relaxed option.
