eBay sellers should know the demand of items they are selling, it is claimed.

eBay sellers using parcel delivery services need to know how much demand there is for an item to make the most out of a sale, it has been claimed.

Knowing the demand for an item makes it easier to decide on where to start the bidding at and whether or not to set a reserve, according to monstersandcritics.com.

Writing for the website, Jay Dougherty explains that sellers can use eBay's Advanced Search feature to find out exactly how many people bid in auctions on similar items and how much people are paying.

If items are in high demand then sellers will not need to bother with a reserve and can set the starting price low to generate interest.

He also suggests sellers should take their own photos to maximise interest.

The tips come after eBay seller Ina Steiner wrote on AuctionBytes.com that small businesses can exploit their uniqueness to compete with big firms.
