eBay is hosting a charity auction of Mad Men clothes.

Bidders on eBay may end up with a parcel delivery containing a dress worn by Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, after the show is launching an online auction to raise money for a lung cancer charity.

Mad Men is teaming up with the California's City of Hope hospital, a leading lung cancer centre, to sell off a few of the best known props and dresses from the first three seasons of the show.

The auction will see, in addition to items from the Sterling Cooper ad agency's office, dresses worn by Christina Hendricks, who plays sassy secretary Joan Harris, and January Jones, who plays Betty Draper.

Sandra Stern, chief operating officer at Lionsgate, which makes the show, explained to Reuters the thinking behind the pick of charity.

She said: "The smoking depicted in Mad Men was ubiquitous in the '60s world of Madison Avenue advertising and is a vivid reminder of how far we've progressed in our attitudes toward smoking since then."

The auction lasts ten days and begins at 03:00 BST tomorrow (August 13th), which is seven in the evening in California on August 12th.
