More people in the UK are buying clothes online.

More people than ever before are ordering a parcel delivery containing fashion items from eBay, it has emerged.

Shoppers from affluent areas of Britain, hit by the economic downturn over the last couple of years, have turned to the auction site to buy designer gear direct, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

eBay launched its Fashion Outlet section on its UK site earlier in the year and since then demand for brands like Schuh, Bench and Karen Millen has “soared”.

The newspaper reports that demand for high quality items has increased by more than 300 per cent.

"Many of these people would previously have paid full price for their clothes from some of the most expensive retailers. Now, they need to shop on a budget," a spokesman for eBay said.

The news comes not long after eBay launched a shopping basket function on its eBay site that allows shoppers to put all the items they want sent by courier delivery into one place to compare prices and parcel shipping options.
