Now may the optimum time for selling on eBay.

Now may be the best time for a parcel delivery from eBay, after one official from the auction site said early autumn is probably the busiest time of the year.

Users increase their activity between August and October as measured by replies to advertisements, eBay Classifieds general manager Martin Herbst told the New York Times.

A lot of this increased buyer activity happens in autumn because it is when students are heading back to university and new graduates need furniture for their homes.

"When we look at peak traffic times of the year, it's basically three times of the year when families and people motivate to organise their lives," he told the newspaper.

The other two times of the year are in January and in March.

Mr Herbst pointed out that these times of the year are also best for buyers, since it is a time when people are throwing stuff out and buying new items themselves.

Another busy time for eBay will no doubt be in the run up to festive period, with the site describing itself as a "one-stop shop for comfort Christmas shopping".
