Did eBay help boost MasterCard business?

Did eBay help boost MasterCard business?Credit card firm MasterCard has reported a strong second quarter results.

Cross-border transactions, no doubt helped by eBay buyers ordering parcel deliveries from overseas, have contributed to a strong second quarter of 2010 for MasterCard, the firm has announced.

The credit card provider reported net revenue for the period was up to $1.4 billion (£880 million) - an increase of 6.7 per cent on the second quarter in 2009.

Cross-border transactions were up even further, seeing a 15.2 per cent year-on-year increase.

Ajay Banga, MasterCard president and chief executive officer said he was pleased with the firm's performance.

He explained: "Solid GDV [gross dollar volume] growth, particularly in markets outside the US, continued momentum in worldwide cross-border volumes, and thoughtful expense management all contributed to good financial results this quarter."

The news comes after rival card firm Visa announced similarly strong results for the third quarter of the fiscal year.

It reported net operating revenue was up by 23 per cent for the three months to the end of June, compared to the same period last year.ADNFCR-2348-ID-19921203-ADNFCR
