CWU reaffirms stance on postal bill

The CWU has written to MPs over plans for Royal MailA leading trade union has restated its position on the proposed part-privatisation of Royal Mail.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has written a letter to Labour MPs outlining that its position on the future of Royal Mail has not changed.

According to the body's statement, it reaffirms that the best way to transform the company through the postal services bill is to do it in the public sector domain.

The letter also highlights the areas which the organisation believes need to be altered if the legislation is to get the green light.

In an extract from the document, the union said: "The CWU will campaign against the passage of the Bill as it stands, whether or not the government is able to secure an actual sale of Royal Mail shares in the next few months.

"The union believes it is possible for an effective piece of legislation to be carried, if the elements of privatisation are removed."

Earlier this week, a spokesperson from the CWU claimed that the part-privatisation of Royal Mail could lead to job losses, which in turn may force people to seek post office alternatives.ADNFCR-2348-ID-19204306-ADNFCR
