The Communication Workers Union is preparing for a rally on May Day against the part-privatisation plans for the Royal Mail.It has been announced the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is planning a march and rally on May Day to protest against the proposed partial privatisation of the Royal Mail.Hell Mail reports the march is set to begin at Clerkenwell Green in EC1, London, and will include guest speakers including Tony Benn, Sheila Bancroft from the Trades Union Congress and UNITE's Steve Hart.Any potential future strike action from members of the CWU as a result of their opposition to the plans could result in people in the UK looking for Post Office alternatives for package delivery.Billy Hayes, general secretary of the CWU, said Royal Mail "can and must have a successful future in full public ownership".He added: "We welcome modernisation, responsibility on pensions and the change of regulator but do not see the need for privatisation. This element of the Bill must be amended to ensure a successful future for the UK's postal industry."A postal worker and CWU member from Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent recently launched his own rooftop protest after failing to receive a formal apology from Royal Mail when being fully exonerated on charges for which he was suspended in 2007.Article Added: 24/04/2009 09:42:08
