A number of parcel deliveries in Crewe have been held up due to staff shortages, according to reports.

People living in Crewe may choose to seek post office alternatives after it was revealed that Royal Mail services in the area have been held up.

According to the Crewe Chronicle, it has been approached by unnamed workers from the local sorting office that claim over 10,000 were not delivered last week due to staff shortages and the introduction of a new system.

Royal Mail has not confirmed the figures, but claimed the backlog has since been cleared.

The worker told the newspaper: "They decided to change the way deliveries in Crewe are made. As a consequence, we have approximately 10,000 first and second class letters and packages that should have been delivered today."

Postal services across the UK are being affected this week by strikes organised by the Communication Workers Union.
