Councillors call for action of Glasgow Post Office

Penilee Post Office has been closed for a monthCouncillor Alistair Watson wants swift action.

Glasgow City Council is calling for urgent repairs to be made to a Post Office which has been shut for the last four weeks, leaving many having to use alternative parcel delivery services.

Penilee Post Office in the south of the city has been closed for the last month following flooding in the area, the Evening Times reported.

Residents have expressed their anger at the delays in reopening the branch, especially when the newsagent and supermarket next door are open.

Councillor Alistair Watson told the newspaper that the holdup is unacceptable and that repair work needs to begin immediately.

"The Post Office can't reopen unless repairs are done. My concern is that being without something for so long becomes an excuse to say people are getting used to the current situation of having to travel," he added.

In other news, the battle to keep Burniston Post Office in Scarborough from closing down is gathering pace, with members of the public and politicians joining calls for it to be kept open, the Scarborough Evening News reported.
