Companies reaching out to shareholders with social media

Companies reaching out to shareholders with social mediaSome companies are using social media to speak to shareholders.

Many retailers, brands and products that rely on parcel delivery and courier services are already using social media to reach out to customers and improve their profile.

Some, though, are making use of social networking sites to communicate with shareholders, according to the Canadian Press.

The newspaper reports that there is a growing amount of corporate information available on the "Twitterverse".

NovaGold is one resource and mining company that is embracing social media in more ways than simply trying to create interest among consumers.

"We're actually trying to show the personality of the company to give people a different way of communicating with us," Rhylin Bailie, a spokeswoman for the firm told the news provider.

"Any opportunity that you have to engage with people is a positive opportunity if you do it properly. This is just a different method of doing it."

Econsultancy recently advised companies that it is important not to confuse corporate blogs with press release boards.

Corporate blogging is a long-term commitment, explained senior research analyst at the firm Jake Hird, and therefore needs to be planned strategically.
